Mimeo 4-H-161 November, 1957 4-H Club Home Improvement 1st Division Some rules to follow: In this project, members shall be 14 years of age or older, sometime within the current calendar year. There are two divisions in the home improvement project with seven subdivisions in the second division. A club member who has completed the first division of this project may enroll in Division Two A, B, C, D, E, F, or G and thus may continue in home improvement club work for eight years. In case divisions one and two are carried the same year, the advanced division only is to be exhibited. The club year begins at the close of the county exhibit and extends until the next year’s exhibit; therefore, any improvements made after the club exhibit may be included on the next year’s work. If you would like to make some improvement which is not listed in the project, discuss this with your leader or home agent. Perhaps it can be substituted for one or more of the things listed. Each member is expected: 1. To study the sections of the bulletin relating to the improvements she plans to do. 2. To do the required work. 3. To complete all written work requested in the project record sheet. 4. To exhibit the required number of articles. 5. To take part in tours planned by your leader and club members. These tours could include visits to a few rooms being worked upon by members. They might also include tours to stores. 6. To cooperate with leader and other club members in keeping a friendly, happy feeling in the club. (See 4-H Home Improvement Bulletin) It is hoped that this division of the Home Improvement project will encourage you to study your room carefully, with the thought of making it just as livable as possible, with what you have, and to develop an appreciation for your room and a willingness to share in home responsibilities by giving it the proper care. Division I—Arrangement—Storage—Care You May Improve: a. Your room b. The room you share c. The room of some other member of your family The first phase of this project is limited to the bedroom with emphasis on arrangement and on storage improvement. All the work you do may be done in your room, or some of it may be needed more in your brother’s or parents’ room. In the Home Improvement bulletin you will find discussion on various groups such as the dressing unit, sleeping unit, writing unit, etc. As you rearrange your room and plan your work in this project, think in terms of these units. As has been explained, some of the work may be done in other rooms instead of yours. Required Work 1. Rearrange a bedroom to best advantage. 2. Make a drawing of this before and after rearrangement. 3. Take entire care of room for two months. 4. Provide a place for shoes other than closet floor. Do—1. At least five of the “Things to Do” listed below. 2. Complete record sheet. Some Things To Do To Improve Your Room (You may be interested in doing more than 5) 1. Locate rod or rods for needed hanging space and greatest convenience in closet. 2. Provide sufficient shelf space. 3. Improvise a closet if room does not have one. The following may be made or selected 4. Provide hat standards or hat boxes for closet shelf. 5. Provide sheets of proper length and in sufficient number. 6. Provide covers for bed. 7.
