311 SPECIAL MEETING OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF TilE TRUSTEES OE PURDUE UNIVERSITT Executive Building July 23, 1946 iu NOTICE OF MEETING, The Board of Trustees of The Trustees of Purdue University convened at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 23, 1946, in the Tmstees* Room of the Executive Building of the University, pursuant to the following notice sent to each member of the Board by the Secretary on July 6, 1946: The President is calling a special meeting of the Board of Trustees of The Trustees of Purdue University on Tuesday, July 23, 1946, convening at 11:00 a.m. (DST), in the Trustees* Room of the Executive Building of the University. Among the items on the agenda for the meeting are: 1. Receive, open, consider^ and act upon bids for alterations to Heavilon Hall, Mechanical Engineering laboratories, Michael Golden Shops, and Purdue-Marott Agricultural Center; 2. Act on any other matters -vdiich may come before said meeting. II, ROLL CALL. President Hillenbrand called the meeting to order at 11:00 a.m. The follow¬ ing Tonistees were present: Mrs. "Van Ness, Messrs. Cole, Hanley, Hillenbrand, Lynn, Sherwood, Stuart, Thompson and Wilson, constituting a majority and quorum. Also present were President Hovde, Controller Stewart, Secretary Hockema, .and Assistant Secretary Skinner. III. OPENING OE BIDS POR CONSTRUCTION. At 11:05 a.m. the following entered the meeting: Mr. H. B. Abbett, Purchasing Agent, Mr. R. T, Hamilton, Superintendent of Physical Plant, Mr. J. M. Schluntz, Construction Superintendent, Mr. Walter Scholer, Architect, and representatives of one of the companies submitting bids for building alterations and remodeling. Dean Potter, Professor Bruhn, and Professor Bolz also entered the meeting. Controller Stewart read the names of those submitting bids as follows: , William Moeller, Indianapolis, Indiana Lahr Plumbing and Heating Corporation, Lafayette, Indiana A. E. Kemmer, Lafayette, Indiana All the bids having been received. Controller Stewart proceeded to read the bids in the presence of the bidders in accordance with the published notice. The Controller also read a letter from K. H. Kettelhut, General Contractor, Lafayette, stating that it was Impossible for him to submit lump sum bids within reason be¬ cause of the existing emergency in the building construction industry, due to con¬ tinued and increasing uncertainty in price and supply of materials and labor.
