Hendricks, and in accordance with the Statutes of Indiana, the Board of Trustees met this day at the office of Coffroth and Ward in La Fayette. Present His Excellency, Gov. Hendricks, J. Purdue, M.L. Peirce, L.A. Burke, J.R. Coffroth, J.A. Stein. The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. On motion of Mr. Coffroth the Board proceeded to the election by ballot of a Secretary and Treasurer, with the following result:For Secretary John A. Stein received five votes and John R. Coffroth one vote. For Treasurer Martin L. Peirce received five votes and John Purdue one vote. So John A. Stein was declared elected as Secretary, and Martin L. Peirce as Treasurer of Purdue University: each to hold his office for the term of two years. Thereupon the said Stein and Peirce take and subscribe the following oath of office—each of himself separately:The State of Indiana, Tippecanoe County, ss. [sub-state- John A. Stein being duly sworn according to law on his oath says that he will support the Constitution of the United States and the constitution of the state of Indiana, and faithfully discharge his duties as Secretary of Purdue University, according to the best of his ability. [signed] John A. Stein Subscribed and sworn to before me a Notary Public in and for said county on this 6th day of May 1873 as witness my hand and notarial seal. [seal][signed] Wm. [William] C.
