M. Fowler Treasurer, reported favorably. Report accepted.The report of Prof. Plumb regarding the condition and needs of the Farm Department was on Mr. Beem’s motion referred to the Farm Committee.The report of Mr. Curtis, Physical Director for the year 1897-8 was presented, accepted and ordered filed (see file “A”).The request of the Purdue Alumni Association for $25.00 towards expenses of Alumni meet, was granted by the Board.The Board took up the claim of Wm. B. Burford for [electrotyping?]; after considerable discussion the bill was on Mr. Van Natta’s motion ordered paid.There was presented and read Professor Goss’ report on expenditures from the Special appropriation of $2500. for research work, The report is supplemented by a request for a further appropriation of $2500. for the ensuing year. Report accepted and request granted. Report reads as follows:To the PresidentI submit herewith a statement of expenditures on account of the Engineering Laboratory under an appropriation made by the Trustees at their meeting in June 1897. The amount of the appropriation was $2500, and it was specified that it should be used for the purchase of apparatus and for advancing the research work of the laboratory.In carrying out this provision, it was arranged that all running expenses of the laboratory, including fuel for the locomotive, help not regularly provided for, betterments to apparatus, new apparatus so far as it might be necessary for research work, and all small supplies be charged against this fund, while all boiler supplies such as oil and waste, also recurring repairs on power and heating plant, should be paid out of funds not especially appropriated to the Laboratory. This arrangement provided for all ordinary expenses of the Laboratory as well as those incident to engineering research from the special fund under consideration. The expenses have been as follows:
