Individual entries: Dec. 8: Comments on the pleasure and duties of setting up their own household; they began independent life together 8 days previously. They have not hired a servant, and are doing their own housework. Description of their daily routine; their brief ownership of a cat; their eccentric Irish washerwoman; visitors they have had. Dec. 12: Visiting neighbors; George Winter played his guitar and sang at Biddle's office this evening. Dec. 13: The sermon at church; visits from friends. Dec. 14: Due to the poorness of the Michigan Road, no mail has arrived for a week. Evening spent with friends; G.W. played his guitar. Dec. 15: Rainy; Mary's parents visited them. Dec. 16: Visits to neighbors; sunny. Dec. 17: Sunny and cold. Dec. 18: Copy of a poem by Thos. H. Baily, on the falsehood of man. Dec. 19: Calls by and on friends. Dec. 20: That morning's church sermon. Dec. 21: Friends for supper. Dec. 22: Thoughts on wisdom and foolishness; visits from friends and Mrs. Squiers. Dec. 23: Complaints about the high price of wood, and the untrustworthiness of wood suppliers. Visits to neighbors. Dec. 24: Describing a mock funeral, by the Logansport Thespian Society of the effigy of a man who had in some way wronged them.
