| Description Continued | Owing to the speculation about the existence of a monster 60 feet in length living in Lake Man-i-tou, there has been an expedition proposed to sound the lake and attempt to capture it. Various opinions have been expressed on the veracity of the story and even the existence of the lake itself. A public meeting in Logansport discussed plans for capturing the monster. Several buoys would be placed on the lake, with long ropes, weighted with rocks, hung from those nearest the bank to anchor the apparatus. Baited hooks would be hung from the other buoys. Flags will be placed near the buoys and around the lake, as the monster seems to be attracted to flags (story of its attacking a surveyer who was wading in the lake, holding a flag). Further sightings of the creature by reputable witnesses. Although science has succeeded in dispelling much superstition, we still inherently carry an appetite for the marvellous. However, this creature is attested to by sound witnesses, and this recounting is not meant as a hoax to the public. There is still hope that the expedition wil occur, if not prevented by sickness, and even if the monster is not captured, it will still be a pleasant and relaxing trip. |
