William Wells, justice of the peace and Indian Agent at Fort Wayne, was killed in the Fort Dearborn massacre of 1812, and his heart was eaten by the Indians. Attached newspaper clipping from Indianapolis News, May, 1920, regarding Professor Lindley's search for records regarding the Northwest Territory and his projected trip to England to study archival practices there. |
