| Description Continued | Thoughts on the great variety of art, in both style and content. The western U. S. has produced landscape artists who rival those of Europe, and among those is George Winter. To observe the Indians firsthand, he came to this area and was assisted by the friendship of Col. Pepper. He found much to interest him. Now he has brought some of his works to Lafayette. They include Indian groups on the Wabash and Eel Rivers, and Lakes Mux-en-kuc-kee and Kee-waw-knee. Although his skies are poorly done, the figures are excellent and authentic to the Indian type. The coloring is also good. The Indians depicted have now passed away, but in the future they will certainly be remembered with much interest. |
