|

|
| Description | Handwritten letter From: George Winter, Lafayette, January 24, 1860 To: Palmer ALS, 4 p. (one sheet, folded) |
| Description Continued | Acknowledging his letter of (January?) 22. Regarding his recent distribution of paintings; Palmer appears not to have won. People's attitudes toward the distribution. Lecture by Prof. J.D. Butler (?) was well received, but G.W. still lost $200.00 in the distribution, and so will give them up. Art as recorder of history and human progress without the fine arts, a culture leaves behind no meaningful record of itself and is on the level of animals. |
