| Title | Chapters from the First and Second Books of Timothy |
| Other Title | Bible. N.T. Timothy |
| Description | A page with the last chapter of Timothy I and the first two chapters of Timothy II is shown. The name Timothy, written in Latin as Thimothea, followed by the Roman numeral II, appears at the top of the page. |
| Description Continued | The manuscript from which this folio comes probably was made by Cistercian monks, who shunned the use of rich colors, especially gold, in their books, and preferred a more sober red and blue for ornament. The "ruling" used to arrange the page before it was written upon is clearly visible. The two-column text is done in Gothic Script. The large initial "P" seen in the lower left is embellished with a fantastic pattern of intricate floral design that trails off above and below. The first section of rubrication above the "P" announces the prologue to Timothy II. The small, isolated words written in the margins are insertions into the text, omitted by the scribe who originally wrote the page. Tiny markings indicate where the insertions belong. Starting with the letter "P" of Paulus, the text, which contains a letter form the apostle Paul to Timothy, reads as follows: "Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, according to the promise of life which is in Christ Jesus..." |
