The
text
of this
original
vellum
leaf
is
a
personal
prayer
for
divine
guidance.
This
invocation
is
written
in
Latin
in
black
ink;
it
is
followed
by a
brief
title
inscribed
in
red
ink
(rubrication).
Description Continued
A
series
of
gold
and
blue
crosses
with
floriated
frames
separate
different
lines
of the
prayer.
In
one
case
, a
cross
is
subtituted
for a
letter
(the
"M"
of
"Omega"
in
line
7).
In the
bottom
left
corner
of the
page
occurs
a
magnificent
intial
"I
,
"
painted
in
gold
leaf
against
a
red
and
blue
ground
that
is
embellished
with
delicate
scrollwork.
Three
peacock
feathers
also
grace
the
initial.
The
prayer
text
reads
as
follows:
"Let
me
be
guided
by
ineffable
goodness;
Let
me
be
ruled
by the
power
of the
Father;
Let
the
wisdom
of the
Son
inspire
me;
Let
the
virtue
of the
Holy
Spirit
illuminate
me.
Alpha
and
Omega
,
God
and
man
--
May
this
invocation
be
eternal
protection
and
salvation
for
me.
Amen."
