Abstract of InterviewEmily Mobley is a native of Michigan and current Esther Ellis Norton Distinguished Professor of Library Science. She discusses her college and graduate work in library science. Mobley discusses her career path prior to her appointment in 1986 at Purdue, with positions at firms such as General Motors Institute. In 1989 she was promoted to full professor along with being named the first Dean of Purdue Libraries. She discusses challenges as Dean, such as easier access to materials and collections beyond the Purdue campus. Other topics include the 1992 Serials Cancellation Project, physical facilities, 125th Anniversary of the library in 2000, ARL rankings and the role of the library in 21st century. Mobley stepped down from the Dean of Libraries position in 2003.
