Abstract of InterviewKarl G. Brandt was born on October 15, 1938 in Texas and received his undergraduate degree in chemistry from Rice University in 1960. His graduate work was done at Massachusetts Institute of Technology where he received his Ph.D. in 1964 in chemistry. Post-doctoral work was done at University of Pennsylvania and Cornell and he came to Purdue in 1966 as Assistant Professor of Biochemistry in the Department of Biochemistry. He was promoted to full professor in 1975. Brandt talks about Academic Programs in Purdues College of Agriculture from 1984 to 1996. He taught in the Indiana University School of Medicine-Lafayette Campus for some years. In the second part of his interview Brandt converses on his work with the Committee on Education of Teaching Assistants, the national conference Education and the Undergraduate held at the National Academy of Sciences in Washington, D.C. his part in the national efforts that led to the USDA, and the Purdue University Biochemistry Program. The recipient of many awards including induction into the Purdue University Book of Great Teachers (2003), the Teaching for Tomorrow Award (2003-2004), Outstanding Teacher Department of Biochemistry, for a series of six different years and Sagamore of the Wabash (2002).
