Abstract of InterviewStanley Shaw, a native of Parkston, South Dakota, received his Ph.D. in 1962 from Purdue University with a major in bionucleonics and minor in Pharmacy. His major professor was Dr. John E. Christian. He remained at Purdue and became Professor and Head of Division of Nuclear Pharmacy in the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. From 1990-1993 he was the Acting Head of the School of Health Sciences. He talks about his research area- the pharmaceutical care provided by nuclear pharmacists. In this regard, knowledge of drugs and agents that may alter the bio-distribution and/or pharmacokinetics of a radiopharmaceutical in a patient is an important part of pharmaceutical care. He started the Nuclear Pharmacy Certificate Program to provide graduate pharmacists with specialty training required by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NEC). Shaw has been the recipient of numerous awards- Fellow American Society of Hospital Pharmacy, Distinguished Alumnus Award South Dakota State University, APHAs Daniel B. Smith Practice Excellence Award. A teacher/educators greatest satisfaction is the success and happiness of those who have been touched by his efforts as an educator.
