Keith
V.
Smith
,
Professor
Emeritus
Krannert
School
of
Management
, was
born
in
Birmingham
,
Alabama
and
moved
to the
Midwest
when
he was
13.
The
family
had
thought
of
settling
in
Fort
Wayne
,
Indiana
but
settled
in
Bryan
,
Ohio
instead.
He
earned
his
B.S.
from
Ohio
State
University
in
1960
,
M.B.A.
in
1961
and
Ph.D.
from
Purdue
in
1966.
Prior
to
coming
to
Purdue
as
Dean
of the
Krannert
School
of
Management
in
1979
, he was
associate
dean
at
UCLA
Graduate
School
of
Management.
Keith
was the
third
dean
of the
school
and the
first
alumnus
of the
Krannert
School
to
serve
as
dean.
He
talks
about
challenges
,
initiatives
,
opportunities
, and
goals
in his
deanship
, as
well
as a
leaders
role
in the
academic
world.
He
hired
Kerry
P.
McClanahan
to
develop
alumni
as an
advisor
to the
Krannert
School
on a
wide
range
of
management
and
education
topics.
He
stepped
down
as
dean
on
July
1
,
1983
and
returned
to
teaching
and
research
in
management.
He
received
the
Distinguished
Alumnus
Award
from the
College
of
Engineering
, The
Ohio
State
University
in
2000.
In
retirement
he
co-authored
with his
wife
Jane
A.
Smith
a
book
,
Strategies
in
Personal
Finance.
