Abstract of InterviewRonald L. Somerville was born and raised in Vancouver, British Columbia on February 27, 1925 and earned a BA in 1956 from the University of British Columbia in Vancouver. Somerville received a Ph.D. in 1961 from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Prior to coming to Purdue in 1967 as an Associate Professor in the Department of Biochemistry, he was an Assistant Professor at the University of Michigan. He is the recipient of two patents along with two colleagues. Somerville has also received awards such as Special Scholar National Research Council of Canada, 1958-1960, C.T. Huang Lecturer, University of Hong Kong, Visiting Professor Shanghai Jiaotong University, 2000. From 1997 to 1999, he served as co-director of the Purdue Genetics Program.
