George
W.
McNelly
,
Professor
Emeritus
of the
College
of
Technology
,
talks
about
early
years
and
arrival
at
Purdue
in
1952
at the
Division
of
Applied
Technology
,
which
became
the
College
of
Technology.
He
left
Purdue
and
returned
in
1962
and
served
as
Dean
of the
School
of
Technology.
McNelly
discusses
challenges
,
responsibilities
,
initiatives
and
growth
of the
school.
During
his
leadership
,
Knoy
Hall
was
built
,
which
President
Ronald
Reagan
visited
in
1987.
He
discusses
the
campus
in the
1950s
and
1960s.
McNelly
talks
about
the
relationship
between
technology
and
engineering.
Originally
it
was
thought
that the
technologist
would
take
the
engineers
design
and
translate
it
for the
craftsman
to
build
the
product.
McNelly
received
an
Honorary
Doctorate
in
Technology
from
Purdue
University
in
