Abstract of InterviewThe Arthur G. Hansen Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Mathematics recounts his coming to the United States in the fall of 1939, service in the United States Army from January 1943 to March 1946, attendance at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), from 1946 to 1952, earning Bachelors in Physics, 1948, Masters in Applied Mathematics, 1949, and PhD in Mathematics, 1952. Prior to coming to Purdue in 1962, as Head of the Division of Mathematical Sciences, he was at Lehigh University, Princeton University, University of Connecticut and Wayne State University. He shares his experience as the First Dean of Science (1963-1974), Provost and Professor of Mathematics 1974-1986, (the second provost at Purdue) and return to teaching in the Department of Mathematical Science, 1986-1991. He considered recruiting his top priority. Quote: Of all the things I have done, teaching is what I have enjoyed the most.
