Abstract of InterviewJohn Osmun is a native of Massachusetts who attended University of Massachusetts at the same time as John Hicks. He is also Emeritus Executive Assistant to President Hovde and Hansen. He came to Purdue in 1956 as head of the Entomology Department and served until 1972. He talks about the growth of the department, faculty recruitment, student curriculum and long-term planning. He started the Nematology Unit within the Department in 1958 and another program called Insect Physiology. Osmun gives information about National Pesticide Information Retrieval System which began in 1976. He was the developer of the Governors Five State Interdisciplinary Pesticide Council after stepping down as department head. He went to EPA as Director of Operations and then returned to Purdue until retirement in 1987. In recognition of his contributions to the department and Purdue the John V. Osmun Alumni Professional Achievement Award in Entomology was established.
