Abstract of Interview
Charles
Rutledge
is
the
current
Vice
President
for
research
at
Purdue
University.
He
received
a
BS
in
Pharmacy
and an
MS
in
Pharmacology
from the
University
of
Kansas-
Laurence.
Prior
to
coming
to
Purdue
in
July
1986
, he
served
as
Associate
Director
of the
Center
For
Biomedical
Research
at the
University
of
Kansas-Laurence.
When
he
came
to
Purdue
he
served
as the
Dean
of the
School
of
Pharmacy
,
Nursing
and
Health
Sciences.
Charles
recounts
moving
forward
as
founding
Executive
Director
of
Discovery
Park
,
Purdues
interdisciplinary
research
center.
He
talks
about
the
research
being
conducted
at
Discovery
Park.
After
serving
as
interim
Vice
Provost
for
Research
from
2002
to
2005
, he was
appointed
Vice
President
for
research
in
2007.
In this
position
he
leads
a
revolutionary
initiative
that
brings
together
faculty
from a
wide
variety
of
disciplines
to
tackle
the
complex
problems
of the
21st
century.
He
comments
on the
life
sciences
initiative
within
Indiana
and his
legacy
as
Vice
President
for
Research.
