Abstract of InterviewCharles Rutledge is the current Vice President for research at Purdue University. He received a BS in Pharmacy and an MS in Pharmacology from the University of Kansas- Laurence. Prior to coming to Purdue in July 1986, he served as Associate Director of the Center For Biomedical Research at the University of Kansas-Laurence. When he came to Purdue he served as the Dean of the School of Pharmacy, Nursing and Health Sciences. Charles recounts moving forward as founding Executive Director of Discovery Park, Purdues interdisciplinary research center. He talks about the research being conducted at Discovery Park. After serving as interim Vice Provost for Research from 2002 to 2005, he was appointed Vice President for research in 2007. In this position he leads a revolutionary initiative that brings together faculty from a wide variety of disciplines to tackle the complex problems of the 21st century. He comments on the life sciences initiative within Indiana and his legacy as Vice President for Research.
