Abstract of Interview
George
Hynd
was
appointed
Dean
of the
College
of
Education
on
July
1
,
2003
after
24
years
on the
University
of
Georgia
Faculty.
He
recounts
the
challenges
and
changes
in the
school-strategic
plan
,
Center
of
Research
and
Engagement
in
Science
and
Mathematics
Education
[CRESME].
Hynd
discusses
collaborations
with
other
schools
on
campus
and
two
endowed
professorships
that
came
to the
school.
He also
discusses
career
opportunities
for
students.
ON
TRACK
is
the
pilot
program
at
Sunnyside
and
Tecumseh
middle
schools
that
Hynd
worked
on.
Hynd
also
received
an
Honorary
Doctorate
from the
University
of
Jyvaskla
,
Finland
in
2004.
Hynds
research
interests
include
the
neurobiological
basis
of
childhood
learning
disabilities
and
psychopathology.
He
resigned
from
Purdue
to
become
Senior
Vice
Provost
For
Education
and
Innovation
and
Dean
of the
Mary
Lou
Fulton
College
of
Education
at
Arizona
State
University
,
effective
January
1
,
2008.
