TitleBoilermaker, statue
DescriptionThe new Boilermaker statue at Purdue University between the Intercollegiate Athletic Facility and the Mollenkopf Athletic Facility stands tall above worker Samuel Asamal of the Indianapolis-based Granite company. The 5, 400-pound, 18-foot bronze statue by sculptor Jon Hair of Cornelius, N.C., was commissioned by an anonymous donor who wanted to present Purdue with a statue of the world's largest boilermaker. The university researched several old photographs and newspaper articles to ensure the statue would depict what real boilermakers wore when they worked in boiler rooms in the 19th century. The statue will be dedicated Nov. 4 to celebrate the completion of the phase one renovation of Ross-Ade Stadium. (Purdue News Service photo/David Umberger)
