The
new
Boilermaker
statue
at
Purdue
University
between
the
Intercollegiate
Athletic
Facility
and the
Mollenkopf
Athletic
Facility
stands
tall
above
worker
Samuel
Asamal
of the
Indianapolis-based
Granite
company.
The
5
,
400-pound
,
18-foot
bronze
statue
by
sculptor
Jon
Hair
of
Cornelius
,
N.C.
, was
commissioned
by an
anonymous
donor
who
wanted
to
present
Purdue
with a
statue
of the
world's
largest
boilermaker.
The
university
researched
several
old
photographs
and
newspaper
articles
to
ensure
the
statue
would
depict
what
real
boilermakers
wore
when
they
worked
in
boiler
rooms
in the
19th
century.
The
statue
will be
dedicated
Nov.
4
to
celebrate
the
completion
of the
phase
one
renovation
of
Ross-Ade
Stadium.
