This
year
Dr.
George
Hawkins
,
dean
of the
schools
of
engineering
,
became
vice
president
for
academic
affairs.
Harrison
Hall
was in
use
for the
first
time
this
year.
Several
Greek
houses
opened
in
Tower
Acres.
The
newly
renovated
Civil
Engineering
building
was
reopened
and
named
in
honor
of
Virgil
Grissom.
Mackey
Arena
was also
scheduled
to
open
in the
fall
of
1967.
Description Continued
Construction
on the
new
Pharmacy
Building
was
underway.
The
Wade
Power
plant
was
being
expanded
and will
soon
phase
out
the
old
power
plant
on
campus.
The
development
of
Horticultural
Park
on the
West
side
of
main
campus
to
study
botany
,
landscape
architecture
,
horticulture
, and
public
use
was
underway.
A
new
department
of
creative
arts
was
developed
this
year.
Purdue
University
beat
USC
in their
first
Rose
Bowl
appearance
