DescriptionHighlights selected events of the calendar year 2006 at Purdue University. Building dedications included the biomedical engineering building, Lawson computer science building, and Fleischhauer radiation therapy facility for the School of Veterinary Medicine. Groundbreaking took place for the Discovery Learning Center in Discovery Park. The clean room at Birck Nanotechnology center opened. The Armstrong hall of engineering building construction continued with completion expected mid-2007. Fedex Corporation donated a retired jet to the Dept. of Aviation Technology.
Description ContinuedThe Campaign for Purdue reached its goal of $1.5 billion. In anticipation of Purdue President Martin Jischke's retirement in June 2007, a search committee was appointed; the Nursing school's new doctor of nursing practice degree program received a grant; a Summit on Energy Security was held on campus, sponsored by Purdue University and Indiana Senator Richard Lugar. History professor Randy Roberts was chosen Indiana Professor of the Year. The football team went to the Champs Sport Bowl, falling to Maryland 24-7. Sharon Versyp began her first year as head coach of women's basketball. A new tradition called "crossing the tracks" was started to welcome new freshmen.
