demolished.

renovated
with a
new
interior
made
for
classrooms
instead
of a
library.
A
new
four
lane
road
named
Salem
Street
spans
the
distance
from
Lafayette
to
West
Lafayette.
A
new
water
tower
was
erected
by the
parking
wall.

A
new
power
plant
was
built
southeast
of
campus.
Herrick
Laboratories
was
dedicated
this
year
for
use
by
agricultural
and
engineering
researchers
,
along
with the
new
student
health
center.
In the
Stewart
Center
a
mural
was
donated
by
R.B.
Stewart
, and
Walter
Scholer
to
represent
Purdue's
land
grant
heritage.
BMS
3
was
presented
to the
University
from
General
Motors.
Gus
Grissom
,
astronaut
and
Purdue
graduate
, was
chosen
to be the
second
man
to
fly
into
outer
space.
A
new
airplane
hanger
and a
400
foot
runway
was
created
at the
Purdue
airport.
