| Description | Photograph of School of Science; Physics; A forward step in improvement of the teaching of physics and science in general was made Saturday when M.W.Welch and R.E.Welch of the W.M.Welch Scientific Company, Chicago, presented to Purdue University several thousand dollars worth of equipment and supplies to be used in the Science Teachers Workshop at the University. Science teachers from throughout the state participated in the dedicatory program. Other items will be included in the Welch gift as new equipment and supplies come on the market. The Science Teachers Workshop is designed to afford useful information to science teachers from throughout the state. Looking over part of the equipment in the accompanying photograph are (left to right) R.E.Welch and M.W. Welch, the donors; Dr. Carl G.F. Franzen of the School of Education, Indiana University; Kr. K. Lark-Horovitz, head of the Purdue department of physics; Dr. Frederick L. Hovde, president of Purdue Prof. R.W. Lefler, director of the Science Teachers Workshop; Dr. C.H. Robertson, veteran member of the Purdue physics staff; Louis M. Stark, manager, School Service Department, Westinghouse Electronic Corporation, and Dr. B.L. Dodds, head of the Purdue division of education and applied psychology. All participated in the dedication program. |
