Mulvany of Oakland, California, sponsor of the SS Purdue Victory, swings the champagne bottle to christen the fast new cargo vessel, named for Purdue University. Mrs. Mulvany is the wife of the assistant chief of construction and inspection on the West Coast for the U.S. Maritime Commission, for which the ship was built at the Kaiser yards in Richmond Calif. Launched March 24, 1945, the Purdue Victory was the 683rd ship produced by the Four Richmond yards. Dr. Edward C. Elliott, president of Purdue, was the principal speaker at the launching ceremony. |
