Hovde, FOUR MEN RECEIVE HONORARY DEGREES -- At the afternoon session of Purdue University's 117th commencement exercises on Sunday (June 8), four men received honorary degrees. Five were awarded at the morning session. Those receiving degrees Sunday afternoon from Purdue President Frederick L. Hovde were, left to right: Norman J. Volk (Doctor of Agriculture), West Lafayette, Ind., dean emeritus of agriculture at Purdue; Ignacio Narvaez Morales (Doctor of Agriculture), director of wheat research in Mexico; Avery O. Craven (Doctor of Humane Letters), Chesterton, Ind., professor emeritus, University of Chicago; Myron L. Bender (Doctor of Science), professor of chemistry at Northwestern University, and President Hovde. Bender and Narvaez are Purdue graduates, while Volk and Craven were Purdue Staff members, the latter a visiting professor during the 1966-67. 6-8-1969 |
