Craven, professor emeritus from the University of Chicago, by Purdue President Frederick L. Hovde (right) at the afternoon session of the university's 117th commencement exercises Sunday (June 8). Craven, who was visiting professor of American history at Purdue during the 1966-1967 school year, is best known for his impressive scholarship in Southern history and the background of the Civil War. He resides in Chesterton, Ind. 6-8-1969
