Hovde, MEXICAN NATIONAL IS HONORED BY PURDUE -- One of Purdue's most distinguished alumni, Ignacio Narvaez of Mexico, was awarded an honorary degree of Doctor of Agriculture by Purdue University at the afternoon session of the university's 117th commencement exercises on Sunday (June 8). Narvaez, who received his PhD at Purdue in 1957, developed new varieties of wheat which made his native Mexico self-sufficient in wheat production. President Frederick L. Hovde, (right) conferred the honorary degree on Narvaez. 6-8-1969
