President F.L. Hovde examining a Hereford steer
Purdue ID NumberPPH00657
TitlePresident F.L. Hovde examining a Hereford steer
DescriptionPhotograph of President F.L. Hovde; The Purdue President is interested in agriculture the same as every other line of knowledge with which Purdue University is concerned. Here he is shown examining one of the 1200 pound Hereford steers used in livestock judging classes with Prof. J.T. Frost, (center), of the animal husbandry department, showing him the part of the carcass from which sirloins come. T.R. Johnston, director of information of the University, is at the left. (Although both Frost and Johnston had careers at Purdue that extended into the 1960s judging from Hovde's outfit it seems likely this photo predates 1954. Hovde came to Purdue in 1946.
